A TOURIST GUIDE TO INDIA- WAYANAD DISTRICT


Wayanad District, located in the state of Kerala in India was formed out from the Kozhikode district and Kannur district in 1980. The name Wayanad is derived from the two tamil words ‘Vayal’ means ‘Farm’(paddy field) and ‘Naadu’ means ‘Land’. Wayanad is located on the Western Ghats with Altitudes ranging from 7,100 Meters to 2,100 meters. It is one of the most important tourist destinations in South India.



Chembra Peaks, Brahmagiri Hills and Thariode mala are some of the important mountain ranges in the district. The Banasura Dam is located on the river course of Kabini, one of the 3 rivers that flows in the eastern direction. There are various places of Touristic, ecological and Religious importance located in the district. Sultan Batheri is a small town of Historic Importance located in the Wayanad district.


How to get there: Wayanad is well-connected with Buses to all the important places in Kerala. Nearest Rail Head is Kozhikode, located at a distance of 67Kms from Wayanad.
