A TOURIST GUIDE TO INDIA - OOTY


Udhagamandalam, shortly called as Ooty is a Popular Hill-Station located in the State of Tamil Nadu in Southern Part of India(South India). Ooty is located at a height of 7,347 feet above Sea-Level in the Nilagiri Mountain Range. Ooty was founded in the 19th Century, serves as the Summer Head quarters of the Madras Presidency at the time of British rule in India.

Ooty attracts swarms of tourists every year and the weather is quite pleasant throughout the year and the temperature reaches a minimum of around 1 C during winter. The landscape is covered with thick vegetation and dense Forests. Many portions of the hills are declared as natural forests.

Places to See: On a Sight seeing tour, the important places to be seen in Ooty are Dodabetta peak, Ooty Botanical gardens, Ooty Rose Garden, Wax Museum, Boating lake and the Tea factory.

How to get there: Ooty Hills are Connected to Chennai by a nightly train( Nilagiri Exp) that plies from Chennai upto Mettupalayam, a small town at the Foothills of Nilagiri Mountain Range. The NMR( Toy train), leaves Metutupalayam at 7.10 and the journey takes about 5.30 hours to reach ooty( By bus, the journey is just about 2 hours). The steam train takes a very scenic route and makes an ideal way of Journey to reach Ooty. There are Buses and taxis that can be boarded from most parts of South-India to Ooty. The nearest Airport is Coimbatore. The 3.30 hours Road journey from Coimbatore to Ooty is quiet Scenic.
