SHARJAH CRICKET GROUND

The Sharjah Cricket ground called as 'Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium' is located in the Emirate of Sharjah, UAE. The Ground was constructed in the early 1980's and theOne-Day International(ODI) Cricket Matches were played in this ground from the year 1984. Between 1984 and 2003, the Sharjah Ground was the venue for a record number of 198 International ODI matches and it holds holds the distinction of becoming the First and Only Cricket Ground(so far) at which a Test match has been played not involving the Home team - UAE. Sharjah was the venue for 4 Test Matches in 2002.
The Stadium, initially started with very modest facilities improved over the years to become a Flood Light stadium with a seat capacity of 27,000. Since 2003, the use of Sharjah as an International Cricketing Venue has declined due to Match Fixing Allegations. The Indian Government banned the National Cricket Team from playing at Sharjah and the new Sheik Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi(UAE) has become the preferred Cricketing venue.
