Kochi, popularly called as Cochin is the second largest city in the state of Kerala, India. Kochi is one of the important sea ports of the country and is located in the District of Ernakulam. In early days, Kochi was an important Spice trading centre. Kochi, called as 'Queen of the Arabian Sea' was the First Site of the European Colonial Settlement in India occupied by the Portugese in 1503. The City was later occupied by the British and became the First Princely state to join the Indian Union after Independence in 1947.
